The McGehee chamber annual awards banquet will be held Tuesday, November 3 at 6 p.m. at the McGehee High School Cafeteria. Keynote speaker is the famed Walt Coleman of Highland Dairy (formerly Coleman Dairy) and NFL Official who entertains his audience with stories of community and the NFL.
The main attraction is the naming of the Man, Woman, Business, Volunteer and Teachers of the Year.
Tickets are $15 or a reserved table for six is $150 and can be purchased at McGehee Bank, USA Promotions or the chamber office.
McGehee Owlfest 2015 will be held on October 2nd and 3rd. Tour de Hoot bicycle ride is returning in 2015. This event benefits the McGehee Boys and Girls club. Also, a new event to Owlfest is a Cheese Dip Contest – a “People’s Choice Award” with festival-goers voting for their favorite. The Annual 5K Run/Walk sponsored by UAM College of Technology Hospitality Department is an exciting experience drawing just over 100 participants last year. As in years past, food, music, arts/crafts vendors and children’s events are a great draw. Come to McGehee and experience Owlfest and you will be hooked!
The WWII Japanese American Museum was honored by the Arkansas Parks & Tourism with the Bootstrap Award at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism on March 10th in Texarkana, AR. This award is presented to an individual, organization, or community that has achieved significant success “on a shoestring,” having limited resources or finances.
